ICE watch and competitors
Everyone is watching the spread of recent hipster wristwatches for some time. We've been pretty sure that ICE watch may be the leader in “state-of-the-art” nightlife watches. However, you will find a few other quite interesting brands in this branch which we would like to reveal to you later in this post.
David Guetta’s attraction is rocketing and we saw an ICE watch product placement in both of his videos “One Love” (Sili Red Big) and “Where Them Girls At” (Ice White Jeans). So you can find this very special collection of his “F*** Me I’m Famous” model. There are 8 different watches, each in various sizes: Small, Unisex or Big. Two are classic: white or black. The others are very very fancy with a unique artwork in the front (Lips, Earphones, Palms,...), all saying “F*** Me I’m Famous”. Despite they are kind of infantile, we saw them a lot in springtime 2011 in Miami and over Labour Day Weekend in Vegas.
After our LDW weekend in Vegas we had a random look on Black Eyed Peace’s “Dirty Bit” and suddenly: Yeah, we discovered an ICE watch again. Not really a surprise for us, since the Belgian company sold over 3.5 million ICE watches in over 90 nations around the globe. By the way: within 3 years. This makes revenue of about 300-400,000 Dollars daily, with more than 3.000 watches sold on just one day.
Also, on LDW 11 in Vegas we identified Paris Hilton’s watch being an ICE watch. Those are very loved by famous people. It appears that watches don’t have to be super pricey to be worn by actors, models, superstars and governors. Think of any other star accessory which is not expensive? Will there be another one? This takes me to the next point.
Not only ICE watch is achieving popularity and fame. There are a number of other manufacturers, which are on their way to the top. Overall we think that hipster watches (as we like to call those colorful, extravagant and cutting-edge sorts of wrist watches) are the real deal. You don’t use your conservative, classic watch in clubs or leisure time anymore. They are still great of course. Business conferences, in the office, afterwork networking may be enjoyed better having a Breitling, Tag Heuer or Rolex.
However, here are a number of our favourites beside the ICE watch:
1. we-wood.us - One Watch. One Tree. One World: It is our most liked alternate hipster watch. Introduced in Florence, Italy in 2010, the small Italian shoe dude migrated to Hollywood to distribute his very clever idea. “Buy one of our wooden watches and we’ll plant a tree!” Simply eco-friendly, but fancy as hell. The complete watch, except the movement is made out of wood. At this point limited to 11 diverse wrist watches, we are pretty sure that this will be widened in the near future. The only downside: not water-proof. Check out WeWood, very impressive!
2. lip.fr - Good Design Is Timeless: lip provides the typical 70s wrist watch including one of the earliest LED screens. Most of the watches are squared, some are designed as rectangles. All are distinctive and fabulous. Have a look!
3. theone-watches.com - Be Different: Of course we needed you to be introduced to theone, the major binary watch. Understanding what time it is, is getting harder in those days. But you’ll figure out after some practise. You will need to add together binary codes to get the specific time. Try this out!
